—ADVERTISEMENTS— Rit All-Purpose Dyemust be rinsed thoroughly Message: I used Rits dye on a carpet, the dye is rubbing off. I used my steam cleaner over and over but it still comes off. Can you make a suggestion? All I can think of to do is repeat the steam cleaning, if there is no other way to rinse the carpet. It is essential to never use Rit® or any other type of dye on anything that cannot be rinsed adequately. Can you pull up the carpet and take it outside to rinse with a garden hose? That's probably your best move, but then you will have to stretch it back into place, as it was when it was originally installed. Perhaps you should contact the manufacturers of the dye with which you treated your carpet. Here is a link to the Rit® dye web site's contact page. (Please help support this web site. Thank you.)
